HORSE TREKKING

Experience the dramatic scenery of Banks Peninsula on
well-mannered, western-trained Quarter Horses on our 800 acre sheep and cattle farm. Exclusive horse treks for 1 to 3 riders.

Ride safely on well formed tracks through serene pastoral land
with spectacular views over native bush and the Akaroa harbour. Cross murmuring streams, pass native forest with ancient Matai
and Totara trees. Visit a historic homestead site, watch grazing sheep and cattle, enjoy the peace, quiet and abundance of bird life.


Weather permitting, we operate 1.5 / 2 / 3 hour horse treks at
10 am and 2.30 pm during the season from November until May.

The Wilkins Bush and Kaik Hill Treks are suitable for people with basic riding skills over the age of 14. The other rides are for experienced riders only.

Wilkins Bush Trek, approx 1.5 hour	$110
Kaik Hill Trek, 2 hours	$120
Beech Grove Trek , 2 hours, (experienced riders only)	$140
Ocean View Trek, 3-4 hours (experienced riders only)	$160

Longer treks for house guests and experienced riders by arrangement.

We do have a weight limit of 100 kg for the health and
well-being of the horses.

Directions: 15 min drive from Akaroa, follow the signs to
“Onuku Marae,” continue uphill, turn left into Haylocks Road. Parking for day visitors at red woolshed.

All riders are to wear long trousers, closed toe shoes and
are advised to bring a bottle of water and sunscreen.
A camera is recommended.

Onuku Heights Horse Treks provides protective helmets.
We use comfortable western saddles of good quality.
